: How many people have actually found any problems with their car on carfax? It's basically selling false confidence because some people don't realize that just because nothing negative comes back on carfax doesn't mean there's nothing wrong with the car. I'm not gonna waste $15 on something that may or may not be worth it when I can probably get the same information from a mechanic. but i have had several friends who were 'shopping' cars on the internet who found many different discrepencies, such as rollbacks, salvage title, flood title, etc... it's called piece of mind. and it costs $14.95. where-as a mechanic to do a full inspection of the car costs $100-$250. that $14.95 has saved you $100-$250 if you took that route. I bet i can get many people to confirm that, in general, carfax is a very useful tool when purchasing a car. (period).
